The chant is traditionally set in the (a specific pann or melody of ancient Tamil music) and is integral to the Carnatic music tradition. Its soulful tune has also influenced modern art. For instance, the famous film song "Singaravelane Deva" from the 1962 Tamil movie Konjum Salangai was composed by music director S.M. Subbaiah Naidu , who used the tune of "Manthiramavathu Neeru" as its base. The song was first recorded as a nagaswaram (a South Indian wind instrument) rendition of the hymn before film lyricist Ku. Ma. Balasubramanian was asked to pen new lyrics that would suit the pre-existing tune, creating the iconic duet.
After conducting a search, I found that "Manthiramavathu Neeru" is a song from the Telugu movie "Srimanthudu" (2016). The song is sung by Devi Sri Prasad, and the lyrics are written by Anantha Shree.
Lyrics: Muththidh dharuvadhu neeru muniuvar anindhadhu neeru... Meaning: The holy ash grants liberation ( Mukthi ). It is worn with devotion by great sages and ascetics. It bestows spiritual powers ( Siddhis ). It is the soul of Shaivism. It cures the madness of worldly illusions. It is praised by the spiritually evolved. It purifies everything and deserves high praise [0].
As mentioned in the Vedas , the ash has the power to destroy deep sorrows and remove ignoble thoughts. It grants divine wisdom ( Potham ) and is the ultimate truth.
