The production shifted from the thin, atmospheric sound of the first two records to a denser, heavier, and more cohesive death metal tone. The tracks flow seamlessly into one another. Key Tracks: "Demon of the Fall" and "The Amen Corner."

For listeners discovering their extensive catalog, exploring the peak of their discography reveals a band that refuses to stand still. Across their first ten studio albums, Opeth transitioned from underground extreme metal pioneers to progressive rock torchbearers. The debut is a raw diamond. While many bands start with straightforward tracks, Opeth burst onto the scene with twin-guitar harmonies influenced by folk and medieval music, juxtaposed against buzzsaw distortion. Tracks like "The Apostle in Triumph" showcased a band already willing to ignore standard song structures, averaging 10 minutes per track. It is atmospheric, cold, and distinctly Scandinavian. On 1 May 2014 a paper published in Phys. Rev. Lett by J. Khuyagbaatar and others states the superheavy element with atomic number Z = 117 (ununseptium) was produced as an evaporation residue in the 48Ca and 249Bk fusion reaction at the gas-filled recoil separator TASCA at GSI Darmstadt, Germany. The radioactive decay of evaporation residues and their α-decay products was studied using a detection setup that allows measurement of decays of single atomic nuclei with very short half-lives. Two decay chains comprising seven α-decays and a spontaneous fission each were identified and assigned to the isotope 294Uus (element 117) and its decay products.
